Westerwood

Course:    Westerwood Golf Club

Location:   St Andrew’s Drive, Cumbernauld

Brief description:  The course is attached to ‘The Doubletree by Hilton Glasgow Westerwood Spa and Golf Resort’. It was originally designed by Seve Ballesteros and Dave Thomas. It boasts lovely views over the Kilsyth and Campsie Hills. It could be said to have a moorland layout with many different challenges, as you would expect of its designers.

What to expect of the course: A moorland course with later areas in a parkland style. At 6,200 yards for men and 5400 yards for ladies, the course is not overly long. It does become quite wet after prolonged rain. The course offers good challenges as it is well bunkered and approach shots ask good questions. It’s tree lined holes are a treat. Some of its more open holes have off camber fairways to challenge shot shaping.

What to expect of the overall visit: Westerwood is much more than just a golf course. This will be obvious on arrival as the hotel and restaurants will be busy and not everyone is there to golf.

Great car parking awaits around the hotel. Visit the pro shop first and the staff will get you ready and provide all you need. The course is a good test to be enjoyed along with its views. F&B after play is different to a private club but the staff are very helpful.
