Course: Tillicoultry Golf Club
Location: Alva Road, Tillicoutry.
Brief description: Set in the Hillfoots of Clackmannan, this nine hole gem is visually stunning. Playing twice round, you will play from different tees at the two par 3s. Accuracy is key as it is easy to think this short course will be a ‘birdie fest’.
What to expect of the course: Tillicoutry is well maintained and its staff and members are very proud of it. Attractive parkland in a spectacular setting.
The par 3s are particularly memorable. The 3rd/12th plays from elevated tees to a green protected by bunkers, a large tree and out of bounds. The 6th plays longer as the 15th and has a small green protected by a burn. No hole is a pushover. All require thought and straight hitting. Soak up those views.
What to expect of the overall visit: The club would seem to have limited parking but there is a large overflow. The clubhouse is a very friendly, welcoming place. Both staff and members always make visitors feel welcome and appreciated. Winter hours can be more limited.
Don’t drive past ‘Tilly’; it really is a good experience, as so many wee nine hole courses are.
