Swanston

Course:    Swanston Golf Club

Location:   Edinburgh

Brief description:  Once a course that climbed up the Pentland Hills, this was redeveloped into an 18 hole course on the lower hillside, a Templar shorter/beginners course and an outstanding golf academy and fitting centre. The clubhouse overlooks the opening holes where you can see the traverse that awaits the opening holes. The clubhouse  welcomes golfers and walkers for excellent F&B and it really is advisable to book a table for lunch in advance given its popularity. Good parking, good value golf - check in at the shop in the clubhouse.

What to expect of the course: A course that traverses the lower slopes of the Pentland Hills on the southern edge of the city, it offers a good challenge on holes that are not overly long. Many greens have steep run offs which you'll do well to avoid, given the small greens. The changes to the course are superb and with the additional Templar course and practice facilities this can be a great day out.

What to expect of the overall visit: You can expect a good days golf without breaking the bank, and first rate F&B in the lovely clubhouse. Go further and try the fitting centre (book first), or warm up on the Templar course before heading out onto the 18 hole course. All in all this is good value and great views!
