Stranraer

Course:  Stranraer Golf Club

Location:   Creachmore, Stranraer

Brief description:  Stranraer is more than worth the journey down to the south west. 18 holes of parkland on an escarpment overlooking Loch Ryan. Its signature hole plays along the loch side from an elevated tee. Fourteen par 4s, one par 5 and three par 3s are to be enjoyed.

What to expect of the course: Stranraer is wonderful. A mixture of holes, directions and terrain pose different questions and call for different solutions. Early holes circle the clubhouse before the course spread its wings.

The signature hole is the 5th, “Carunna”, a truly spectacular hole from an elevated tee, overlooking Loch Ryan.

Some blind shots follow in the next few holes, but have faith and follow the guide pins.

What to expect of the overall visit: Situated just out of the town, the club is easy to find. It is well served by car parking and has a wonderful, friendly, welcoming clubhouse. This should be a starting point for visitors. F&B at Stranraer is wonderful and good value. The locals are most friendly and rightly proud of their club, course and town.
