Shiskine

Course:   Shiskine Golf and Tennis Club

Location:   Blackwaterfoot, Isle of Arran

Brief description:  The 12 hole course at Shiskine is regarded by many as the island’s best. Something of a curiosity, one writer described it as “Crazy, Clever and Brilliant.” Well looked after links land with holes, some quirky, which will make you want to play over and over again.

What to expect of the course: Each hole on Shiskine stands alone and they delight visitors. Seven par 3s, four par 4s and one par 5 will take you over undulating terrain, under cliffs, over burns, offer blind shots, tight lies and ‘splashy bunkers.’

It will take new visitors about two hours to complete, and like most exhilarating experiences, they will want to go straight back out and do it all again.

What to expect of the overall visit: Through Blackwaterfoot to the beach. The car park should fit golfers in each day. The wonderful pro shop is at the first tee. It offers a warm welcome and lots of logod souvenirs. If you can tear yourself away from the course after play or not be tempted to the beach, the clubhouse is a beautiful building. The Tea Room of Shiskine and Crow’s Nest Restaurant offer wonderful fair, friendly banter and great views over the course and sea. Absolutely Yummy.
