Pumpherston

Course:    Pumherston Golf Club

Location:   Pumpherston, West Lothian

Brief description:  Famed as 'Royal Pumphy' without the actual blessing, Steve Elkington, USPGA Champion played here in the 90's and his signed photo adorns the wall. Once a 9 hole course built atop old mines this was brilliantly extended to 18 along with a new clubhouse. A real success in a market that doesn't do this transformation that well mostly.

What to expect of the course: Not long, but water, trees and risk/reward shots make this a belter! Some of the new holes are superb whilst the old part of the course retains the original character. It has a good active membership and a welcoming clubhouse which overlooks the course. The 16th is a real beauty - a par 4 with an island green and narrow entrance to get there, which at only 250 yards is very tempting. There are other equally stand out holes and this course really is quite unsung.

What to expect of the overall visit: This is first and foremost a Members club. It does support many outings where owing to the length, challenges and hospitality it is very popular. You will not be disappointed if t=you visit Royal Pumphy.
