Kings Golf Course (formerly Torvean)

Course:  Kings Golf Course, Inverness (formerly Torvean)

Location:  Inverness

Brief description: This newly designed course opened in 2019 and it's an absolute cracker. From arrival, which merits the accolade of one of the most attractive car parks in golf clubs, through to the beautifully designed and attractive clubhouse,  with very helpful staff on hand to ensure you get all the information you need, you have to hand it to the Kings Golf Course - they have looked, listened and got this right!

What to expect of the course: 18 holes that gradually take you to the 12th tee which has a magnificent panorama over Inverness and the Moray Firth. It never feels like you are going uphill (apart from only the 11th) and the delight of the golf holes in getting there makes it worthwhile anyway. The design includes long par 4's which are shortened as they meander down or play with the prevailing wind, and short par 4's with an incline, and against the prevailing wind, and superb green/bunker design that retains the challenge. Water and gorse are there to worry you but mostly add more to the aesthetic rather than impact on your play. The 18th, with the pond in front of the green is simply stunning. The course is young, and growth will make this course even better, but it's already very good!

What to expect of the overall visit: You cannot fail to be impressed with everything about this place. If anyone ever wanted to consider building a golf course for ordinary golfers, which has the capacity to extend to championships, rather than simply another 'stadium course' then look here. It has hints of the PGA Centenary, Gleneagles and all complemented by excellent practice and clubhouse facilities.
