Nairn Dunbar

Course:    Nairn Dunbar Golf Club

Location:   Lochloy Road, Nairn,

Brief description:  An 18 hole links at the eastern end of Nairn. Over the years trees and gorse have been removed encouraging natural grasses to grow. At 6,800 yards it is a very good test. Fast fairways and great greens mix with burns and a range of different styles of bunker.

What to expect of the course: Gentle dunes, sandy soil, fast running fairways, bunkers both revetted and wasteland and good views over the Moray Firth. All this make it a close runner up to its more illustrious championship neighbour. Holes to remember are the 8th, a par three with a sunken green and the 18th, a risk and reward par 5 which creates a challenging finish to a great links.

What to expect of the overall visit: Your first port of call should be the pro shop whose friendly staff deal with tee times. They are happy to give guidance and tips about their course. The shop is well stocked and advice can be sought on the club’s excellent practice facilities. The lovely modern clubhouse has excellent views over the 18th green and has an outdoor seated area for warm days. Catering offers perfect golf club fare and the 19th Bar will take care of all thirsts.
