Course: Musselburgh Old Golf Club
Location: Musselburgh Race Course, Musselburgh
Brief description: On the east edge of Musselburgh, this 9 hole course is one of the oldest courses in the world. The Open was played here until 1889 and if you get the chance to play it with hickory's, as it as back then, you'll appreciate how hard this game was then, even on this short course bounded by Musselburgh Race Course. Park at the old clubhouse, check in and get going.
What to expect of the course: It's a short 9 hole course, and hardly changed since created. It has not been manicured and the utter delight in playing on a course as it was back then is something you must experience. the first 4 holes take you to the extremity at Mrs Formans before meandering back towards the starts hit and clubhouse. It is simply special.
What to expect of the overall visit: Soak up the history on the course and in the clubhouse. Immerse yourself in the fact that true golfing greats played for the Open Championship here and try and compare your game with how they faired with hickory's. The clubhouse is small but homely. A great experience is what to expect. Go there, play it!
