Longniddry

Course:   Longniddry Golf Club

Location:   Longniddry, East Lothian

Brief description:  The area around Longniddry has great history in the playing of golf but the present layout is really quite young having been influenced by several prominent course architects. It is a mix of links and wooded parkland with views across the River Forth and up to Edinburgh.

What to expect of the course: Occupying a site of 106 acres with an overall length of 6,250 yards it is a blend of parkland and links. Longniddry has no par 5s but several par 4s over 400 yards. These can be particularly testing into a wind. Fairways may look generous but there are punishing obstacles in the form of well placed bunkers, gorse bushes, sea-buckthorn and testing rough. The input of several course architects can be seen while playing this East Lothian challenge.

What to expect of the overall visit: Well sign posted out of the town or from the B1348. A good car park greets as well as an impressive, comfortable clubhouse. The pro shop is well stocked and offers friendly advice on how to make the most of your day. A practice net and putting green are close at hand. Longniddry often splits opinion with many enjoying its tree lined holes while others prefer the freedom granted later in the round. Try it for yourself and see what you think.
