Kingsbarns

Course:    Kingsbarns Golf Club

Location:   Kingsbarns, Nr St Andrews, Fife

Brief description:  Now famed as a course in the Dunhill Cup and many other international events, there was once a 9 hole course in Kingsbarns that unfortunately succumbed to the pressures of wartime demands. However, this course was resurrected after a design by Kyle Phillips and has become the world famous course it is today. To get to the course there is a driveway that leads to generous parking, incredible practice facilities, a welcome like no other and the feel good factor of just being there.

What to expect of the course: If God could design a golf course, this would probably be it. There is not a hole that disappoints and it somehow manages to make every golfer of every ability feel good about their game. With the North Sea in view from start to finish you even get good views. It's not fair to single out a hole but it would be unreasonable not to mention the 12th - the signature hole, par 5 that sweeps around the bay towards Crail Golfing Society. A couple of holes later the 15th is a stunning par 3 where the mind can play terrible games with you. The round culminates in an approach over a wee ravine on the 18th where many have found woe.

What to expect of the overall visit: The individual treatment you get on arrival is simply different class and that extends all the way to when you have to play your first shot. For the next 4 hours it's up to you! The clubhouse is not big but it is classy and has subtle extras that you ought to seek out, like the dining experience in the locker room upstairs for instance. It is all fantastic and the price of the round reflects that, however, there are opportunities to have a reduced green fee if you play more than once.
