Course: Gogarburn Golf Club
Location: Edinburgh, near Edinburgh Airport
Brief description: The newest course in Edinburgh, albeit still almost 50 years old, this started off as a 9 hole course and was extended to 12 holes shortly after opening. Parking is easy and the single level clubhouse with its abundance of snacks, is very inviting. Check in with the starter.
What to expect of the course: This short course is protected by an abundance of mature trees and occasional water hazards. If you want to try hammering your driver to all the drivable par 4's, then do it accurately as there is little room for error. A smashing wee course that people often see advertised driving into or from Edinburgh on the A8. Its flat, pleasant to play and doesn't feel like it borders the A8 or the airport.
What to expect of the overall visit: A modest green fee makes this even more attractive. You'll play the course in 2 hours easily and you will enjoy some, if not all of it. The clubhouse is lovely and has a country cafe feel to it. A thriving and loyal membership buy into this club having a modern outlook, which is evident in the way you are treated.
