Glenrothes

Course:    Glenrothes Golf Club

Location:   Glenrothes, Fife

Brief description:  Glenrothes Golf Course is owned by Fife Golf Trust (FGT). It is an 18 hole parkland course measuring just over 6,400 yards. At nearly 60 years old it is still a young course. It has wide tree lined fairways, generous greens, a pesky burn and views across neighbouring countryside.

What to expect of the course: Glenrothes is built in a prominent position on high ground just west of the town. The course is challenging, particularly the back nine. It has something for everyone and big hitters will love it. The course has four par 3s, three par 5s and so ten par 4s. The holes at Glenrothes have some great names, such as, ‘Satan’s Gateway’ and ‘Hell’s End.’ ‘Strutt’s Curse’ is stroke hole number one.

All very scary.

What to expect of the overall visit: There is ample parking at Glenrothes. The clubhouse is large and accommodating with facilities for golfers and outside functions. Check out ‘The Cake Fairy Tearoom’ for lovely catering. The club shop is a helpful place and the staff are both friendly and informative. The Glenrothes Course is a good challenge, especially the hillier back nine. It is usually in excellent condition, dismissing the common belief that municipal courses are not as well maintained.
