Forfar

Course:    Forfar Golf Club

Location:   Cunninghill, Forfar, Angus

Brief description:  Designed originally by Old Tom Morris and altered later by James Braid, Forfar has changed little since then. The course has stood the test of time and is both challenging and entertaining. Characterised by its undulating ribbed fairways, Forfar stands out. Is it Braid’s finest?

What to expect of the course: Forfar is a fine mixture of links-like surfaces, parkland and heathland. With its unique fairways, pine trees, heather and gorse, Forfar is an interesting course to play.

Its signature hole is the 15th, “Braid’s Best.” A longish dogleg demanding accuracy all the way. In fact, the priority throughout Forfar should be accuracy. A good balance of long and short par 4s, challenging par 3s and tempting par 5s.

What to expect of the overall visit: Check in at the club shop and receive a warm welcome and instructions for your visit. The clubhouse is another warm, welcoming place with excellent F&B and the chance to relax.

Forfar, the fourth oldest course in the world, is underrated and deserves many more accolades than it currently receives in publications. The course is always in great order, is good value for money and creates memories for golfers which will last a very long time.
