Duddingston

Course:    Duddingston Golf Club

Location:   Edinburgh

Brief description:  In the shadow of Arthur Seat, this course was home to the famous RDBM Shade who's initials became widely recognised as Right Down the Bloody Middle Shade. Arrival is via a tight lane that opens into a reasonable car park  which can be a bit tight when busy. The Pro Shop is the first area you come to and you should check in there.

What to expect of the course: One of the longer Edinburgh courses, and one of the best. A burn meanders through the course, particularly the front nine before it comes back to haunt you at the 18th where it runs in front of the green. Opening with a generous par 5 the second, a tough par 3, usually reclaims any benefit you might managed at the 1st. It's a glorious course and makes you play golf. Almost every hole is different as the course sprawls across this south Edinburgh suburb. You can expect to enjoy the challenge of a traditional course that has the lot, and it truly is one the finest courses in Scotland let alone Edinburgh.

What to expect of the overall visit: The course makes the visit, which is as it should be. The clubhouse was modernised around 20 years ago and sits overlooking the 1st. Very comfortable, modern and friendly, you are offered typical golf club grub which is modestly priced. It really is a cracking course and one which you must try and play.
