Course: Crow Wood Golf Club
Location: Muirhead, Glasgow
Brief description: An 18 hole course of James Braid design established in 1925. It is laid out in the grounds of the Garnkirk Estate and gives players the idea of being in the countryside, just a few miles from Glasgow City Centre. The course has many mature trees, between which can be seen the Campsie Hills and Ben Lomond.
What to expect of the course: A straightforward walk on this relatively flat parkland course of 6,200 yards. The Garnkirk Burn comes into play on a couple of holes. It’s par 4s are not overly long but need to be played with strategy. The course used to be troubled by poor drainage but, after works, it drains much better. Good greens are consistently produced by its greens staff. The course starts with a par 3, of which there are three. It has two par 5s and thirteen par 4s.
What to expect of the overall visit: Visit the pro shop first. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. They will set your visit up very well. The club has a relatively new and popular practice ground and two practice putting greens. The clubhouse is large and impressive. Good F&B is guaranteed in a friendly atmosphere.
