Cardrona

Course:    Cardrona Golf Club

Location:   Cardrona, outside Peebles

Brief description:  This Dave Thomas designed course which is part of the Macdonald Hotel group is relatively young and sprawls across the lowlands bordering the village of the same name, and next to the River Tweed. With lots of parking at the hotel where you check in this is  a fine place to come for a golf trip or better still, a golf break.

What to expect of the course: The course is an excellent layout which really proves its worth in the drier weather. It has a championship layout with large bunkers, large greens and forgiving fairways. In wetter weather it can be a bit of a slog, like any long course, but it is a course that does not get the play it should and consequently it is never that busy. It is in a breathtaking location and really offers you lots of opportunities to bomb the driver and where errant, you may still have a shot to the large greens. The the fun begins......

What to expect of the overall visit: Like any Macdonald venue, you can expect neat, efficient and a warm welcome. It is in a glorious setting overlooking the Tweed and looking up to the Peebleshire hills. If you do stay for a short break then if the golf has seen you come undone, there's always the sauna, steam room or perhaps just straight to the cosy bar.
